Free legal aid for refugees from Ukraine

Several lawyers’ associations launched hotlines for Ukrainian citizens seeking legal aid.

The Ukrainian National Bar Association (UNBA) announced that the lawyers in its offices abroad provide legal assistance to the refugees from Ukraine, free of charge, and published the list of its foreign representations.

The Georgian Bar Association started the hotline through which the Ukrainians in Georgia can receive pro-bono legal aid (Hotline: 599-11-60-15; E-mail: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)

The Council of the Bar Association of the Republic of Moldova recommended that Moldovan lawyers provide free legal assistance to Ukrainian refugees, upon request, and to the extent possible provide material assistance to refugees at collection centers organised by the authorities.

Also, the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE) encourages lawyers to provide legal assistance to people seeking international protection.

There are numerous initiatives of this kind, as refugees remain one of the key categories having the right to free legal aid.

UPDATE (March 7): European Young Bar Association (EYBA) have created “EYBA Task force” – the list of lawyers in the European countries who are expert in migration law, refugee law and human rights, and are available to give advice for the Ukrainians currently outwith the country seeking protection. The list is updated on a daily basis.
